Cannot upload backup file bigger than 2 GB to Plesk Backup Manager: Request Entity Too Large

Symptoms

Uploading a large backup file (larger than 2 GB) via Plesk > Tools & Settings > Backup Manager > Upload fails with an error that is similar to the following:

• On Plesk for Linux:

  413 Request Entity Too Large

  ---

• On Plesk for Windows:

  HTTP Error 413.1 - Request Entity Too Large
  The page was not displayed because the request entity is too large.

Cause

The backup file is too large to be uploaded via the web browser.
The maximum size of an uploaded backup file is limited to 2Gb. If the backup file size is larger than 2Gb, the backup should be uploaded via the command-line interface.

Resolution

1. Log into your server via SSH (for Linux) or RDP (for Windows)
