Unable to install MS SQL Server in Plesk: The installation of the package ‘sql201x_express’ failed

Symptoms

• An installation of MSSQL Server via Plesk Web Installer fails. One of the following messages is shown:

  The installation of the package 'sql2016_express' failed with code --2068054016.

  ---

  The following services require a system restart:

  Component-Based Servicing pending restart
  Windows Update requires restart
  Restart the system before continuing installation

• In the file C:Program FilesMicrosoft SQL Server<version>Setup BootstrapLogSummary.txt the "Exit message" states that a system reboot is required:

  Overall summary:
      Final result: Passed but reboot required, see logs for details
      Exit code (Decimal): -2067919934
      Exit facility code: 1214
      Exit error code: 3010
      Exit message: A computer restart is required. You must restart this computer before installing SQL Server.

Cause

The code 2068054016 informs that system restart from a previous installation or update is pending.

Resolution

Note: make sure that error codes are 2068054016 or 2067919934.
In case code is another this solution is not applicable.

Restart the server and perform the installation of MS SQL Server again.
